CHRISTRAJ NAVACHETAN SPECIAL SCHOOL - VENUR
Christraj Navachetan Special School for differently abled children was started in the year 1988 with the initiative of Lions Club at Venur, Belthangady, Taluk D.K. In the beginning there were six children but due to lack of personnel. Lions Club could not run it any longer they approached Ursuline Franciscan Sisters. For the past 32 years our sisters are working with women by running a community based vocational skills education centre called Grihini. The continuous touch with the women community and the visits to the villages made us to realize the pathetic situation of the physically and mentally challenged children. A survey was done of the neighbouring villages and more that 25 children were found mentally and physically challenged. These children are mostly hailing from economically backward families. The illiteracy and poverty reflects very strongly on these children. These unfortunate children are totally neglected and denied the love and care of the parents. Though it was a hard task for us without proper infrastructure and building, trusting in the providence of God we took up the challenge of giving life to these unfortunate children of God. The school was handed over to us formally in 1999 in the presence of Rt. Rev. Aloysius Paul D’souza, Bishop of Mangalore.
Since the beginning till now more than 300 students trained in the portals of this esteemed school and some are employed in the small business. At present 43 children are get trained everyday under trained special educators and with the special care of non –teaching staff.
NAVACHETAN HIGHER PRIMARY SCHOOL
On June 4, 2012 Navachetan Lower Primary School was started and Sr. Jyothi G D’Souza was the first headmistress with 32 students. The Grihini School building which was donated by the Diocese of Mangalore for Grihini Training Center served both purposes. It was used as Navachetan Lower Primary school building too. Sr. Sylvia Zita Pinto succeeded her in the year 2013.
Infrastructure was the immediate need of the institution. Rev. Sr. Lenita D’Souza , the Provincial of Mangalore Province laid the foundation stone for the new school building. Our dream came true when the full construction of the building of three floors was completed and gracefully inaugurated on 19 th January 2015. After a long struggle of the management we obtained permission from state Government for English Medium for Lower Primary (standards 1 to 5) on 5 th December 2015 The school obtained the permission from the state Government to upgrade Navachethan Lower Primary School into Navachethan Higher Primary School on 31 st May 2017. At present there are 281students studying in this institute under the able leadership of Sr. Zita Sylvia Pinto.
